SYRIA’S TRANSITION:

Transition Meetings:

September 9:

  • Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaybani hosted a meeting with the Russian delegation visiting Syria, led by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak on September 9. Later that day, the delegation met with President Ahmed al-Sharaa, while separate bilateral meetings were also held, including between Defense Ministry officials. In subsequent Russian media reporting, the visit was described as having included talks over free Russian supplies of fuel in exchange for a continued Russian military presence at the Tartus and Hmeymim bases on Syria’s Coast.
