Violence surges amid Druze-related hostilities; vigilante justice continues; ISIS' gradual resurgence persists; and is the pro-Assad insurgency dead?
For the second week in a row, Syria witnessed a sharp increase in violence, with a total of 158 confirmed deaths across the country over seven days (April 29-May 6) — compared to 83 the week before, and 41 the week before that. This surge in violence came amid a spike in sectarian hostilities involving Syria’s Druze minority (90 killed in Suwayda and Rif Dimashq over the week) and as vigilante justice continued to drive deadly violence, particularly in Homs (11 deaths) and Aleppo (10 deaths).
