SPECIAL: NORTHEAST SYRIA CONFLICT:

January 20:

  • SDF forces evacuated the al-Hol IDP camp in Hasakeh on January 20, creating a temporary vacuum of control, before Syrian MOD and later MOI forces deployed to take control. Upon assuming control, the camp’s main command office was found burned and CCTV camera screens smashed.

  • Clashes erupted between government forces and the SDF around the village of Tel Baroud south of Hasakeh city.

  • One civilian was shot dead by an SDF sniper in the village of al-Hol in Hasakeh.

  • One civilian was killed after their vehicle triggered a landmine planted by SDF militants on the main road leaving al-Shadadi towards Hasakeh city.
