Data Update (September 30-October 7, 2025)
Violence drops to lowest level ever recorded; Hama & Homs remain center of vigilantism; US mediation intervenes amid SDF-Damascus hostilities; & more.
The overall level of violence in Syria dropped last week to the lowest level ever recorded, 10 months into the post-Assad transition. Over the 7-day period, a total of 22 deaths were recorded, 1 of which was caused by unexploded ordnance (UXO).
This all-time low in violence comes amid a broader and steady decline in the average level of violence across Syria in recent months. Over the past 10 weeks (until late-July), Syria Weekly has confirmed an average of 33 deaths per week, while in the remainder of 2025 (January 1 to late-July) the weekly average was 132, including the dramatic spikes in violence on the Coast in March and in Suwayda in July. Even without those spikes included, the average during that same 7-month period was 69 deaths per week — more than double the rate of 33 seen since late-July.
